Sant Juan fiesta on the Summer Solstice here is a really big thing. Known as the Nit de les Bruixes (night of the witches) or the Revetlla de Sant Joan (Midsummer eve of Saint John) the locals will be spending time with the family and then partying all night with lots of fireworks.
For the Perrin's, a drive to Valter and a hike to the top of one of our local mountains in the Pyrenees, Bastiments. The last time that I did this walk was before Covid.... Younger, fitter, prettier and the hike to the top of the mountain (2881 mts) felt a lot steeper and further than I remembered. I think that I might have killed the dog.... She was happy until we got half way....Today, she's hobbling around like me and giving me "eyes".
This walk is quite easy really for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. The round trip is about 8km and there's no technical climbing or mountainereing required. If you get there early, you'll see loads of Chamois and Marmots.
It's a bout a 2 hour drive from Casa Cal Domino and we recommend a stop off at Llenars for coffee and croissants before you arrive at Valter and start the hike. Here you can find the google map directions.....
A great day out in the mountains and we were back in time to make Guacamole, humus, empanada and buy a few beers for a party with friends in Platja d'Aro to watch the fireworks. This week is also the fiesta major de Palamós and next Sunday there is another firework display. During this week, all public buiuldings in Palamós are open for free ! At the start of the summer season, this week is our favourite for parties and live entertainment.
